MinebeaMitsumi Group Environmental Policy

Following the business integration of MITSUMI ELECTRIC CO., LTD., and Minebea Co., Ltd. in April 2017, we revised the existing "Minebea Group Environmental Policy" into the "MinebeaMitsumi Group Environmental Policy," also taking into account the requirements of the updated ISO 14001:2015 standard.

The MinebeaMitsumi Group strives to contribute to the protection of the global environment and sustainable human development. In accordance with the Five Principles of its management policy, the MinebeaMitsumi Group operates its business activities in a responsible manner which respects the environment.
1. Continual improvement of the environmental management system and the environmental performance
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will establish objectives to minimize environmental impacts to the best of its technical and economical ability in order to promote continual improvement of the environmental management system and performance. The MinebeaMitsumi Group will implement internal environmental audits at regular intervals to maintain and improve the environmental management system.

2. Development and design
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will aim to offer its clients products which contain no hazardous substances for the environment or the health and safety of humans, and which consume as little energy as possible, have high reliability and long life.
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will develop and design products which minimize environmental impacts over their entire life cycle from the selection of direct and indirect materials and component parts through end use to disposal.

3. Manufacturing
For environmentally conscious manufacturing and its continuous improvement, the MinebeaMitsumi Group will improve production yield, reduce product scrap, energy consumption and waste through the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and implement preventive measures with regard to pollutants.

4. Procurement and logistics
For environmentally conscious procurement and logistics, the MinebeaMitsumi Group will procure materials including indirect materials and component parts which contain no hazardous substances and employ environmentally friendly logistics systems to minimize environmental impacts such as CO2 emissions.

5. Cooperation with authorities, local public entities and stakeholders
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will observe applicable environmental laws and regulations as well as agreements with other stakeholders in the countries and local communities where it is engaged in business. The MinebeaMitsumi Group will contribute to society through participation in its environmental conservation activities. The MinebeaMitsumi Group will establish voluntary standards as needed to reduce environmental impacts and conserve environment.

6. Contribution to the international community
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will make public its environmental conservation technologies to contribute to the international community's environmental activities.
The MinebeaMitsumi Group will also recognize that its business activities may have an effect on biodiversity and ecosystems and will work to conserve nature.

7. Enhancement of environmental conservation awareness among the MinebeaMitsumi Group employees
This environmental policy will be published to the whole MinebeaMitsumi Group. Each employee will be expected to work proactively to conserve the environment.

2002/02Company-Wide controlling chemicals project established.
2002/07Start of fluorescent X-ray analysis device introduction at main production bases both overseas and in Japan.
2002/10Rules for controlling environment-related chemicals initiated.
2003/01Start of internal auditing of environment quality at main production bases both overseas and in Japan.
2004/02First publication of Mitsumi Environmental Report 2003.
2004/02Start of activities to promote ISO14001 domestic integration.
2004/08Establishment of company-wide common environmental policy, environment manual and rules.
2005/01Acquired domestic integrated ISO14001 certification.
2006/01Chitose Business Division obtains ISO 14001 domestic blanket certification.
2006/03Accomplished zero emission in all the facilities in Japan.
2006/11Started introducing gas chromatography mass spectrometer.
2006/12Held the presentation on chemical substances for overseas suppliers.
2007/04Creation of 2nd environmental protection promotion activities (Voluntary Plan).
2007/05Sponsoring of domestic supplier information meeting regarding chemical substance management.
2008/03Obtained ISO/IEC17025 laboratory accreditation.
2008/03Sponsoring of overseas supplier information meeting regarding chemical substance management.
2009/02Mitsumi published “CSR Report 2008” in which CSR is included in previous environment reports.
2009/10Mitsumi declared commencement of working on the acquisition of ISO 14001 global accreditation for the entire Mitsumi Group in Japan and abroad
2010/02Mitsumi issued environment policies of the entire Mitsumi Group in Japan and abroad
2010/03Mitsumi Tianjin, China acquired ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory accreditation
2010/12Mitsumi acquired ISO 14001 global accreditation for the entire Mitsumi Group in Japan and abroad.
2011/05Biodiversity conservation added to the Mitsumi Group environmental policy.

Framework For Environmental Management

Status Of ISO14001 Certification

In December 2010, the Mitsumi Group acquired global certification at all domestic and overseas bases. Also, in response to the revision of the ISO 14001 standard in September 2015, we completed the transition to 2015 version in December 2017.
