where wiring resistance is a concern in applications such as car audio
DC/DC converter IC
for USB power source with output correction function
< MM3630 >

Overview
In recent years, the capacity of batteries installed in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs has increased yearly as their functionality increases and they are used in a greater variety of situations. The main method used for charging these mobile devices currently uses the USB port, with charging on the move increasing in popularity in particular by connecting to car audio or navigation systems.
The charging current ordinarily supplied from USB is 1 A or less, however mobile devices that are compatible with the higher 2.1 A current rapid chargers that are capable of charging in a shorter time have become popular, and compatibility is also being required for sets supplying power. Yet increasing the current increases the voltage drop due to the resistance in the wire from the power board to the connector that is actually connected to the device, which introduces issues where the 4.75 to 5.25 V required for the USB standard cannot be met.
The < MM3630 > prevents this drop in voltage due to wiring resistance by using a power supply IC with a built-in correction circuit for the DC/DC converter that is capable of outputting 5V/2.5A.  A function that allows the frequency to be synchronized with external sources or varied has also been included as use with car audio and navigation systems is expected. Accordingly, there is no need for a current limit adjustment function, external load switch with synchronous rectification, or external diodes.

§ Features
1.
Built-in output voltage correction to suit USB applications. Voltage drops from the board to the USB port due to cable resistance corrected to support compliance with USB standards.
2.
Output current limit can be set optionally, and an external load switch is not required.
3.
Switching frequency complies with variable or external synchronization with external components to avoid noise interference in the AM band.
4.
The number of external components can be reduced with the use of synchronous rectification. Reliable switching frequency and stable voltage output is also possible even at light loads.
