Multiple Cell Series Protection IC for Li-ion Batteries
with Disconnection Detection Function
3 to 5 Cell Protection IC for Lithium Ion/Lithium Polymer
Secondary Battery
< MM3575xxxWBE >
Announced on September 12, 2013
Overview
The < MM3575xxxWBE > is a standalone protection IC that does not require digital communications with a microcomputer. Electric tools and electric motorbikes (equivalent to a 50 cc gasoline motorbike) that form the main applications of these batteries can introduce vibrations into the battery unit, so a function that can detect disconnection to each cell is required. Batteries also feature multiple cells connected in series, and there has been an increasing demand for cell balancing to compensate for the balance between cells, as well as a function that prohibits 0V charging. The charge/discharge current of the entire set can become extremely high, which requires a 2-stage discharge overcurrent + short-circuit detection and charge overcurrent function.
Including functions that meet various requests from customers will help to increase customer satisfaction levels.

§ Features
1.
Monitoring of the terminal voltage of each cell to detect disconnections and limit charge/discharge current of the applicable set
2.
Allows a passive cell balance function to be included using an external FET
3.
0V charging can be prohibited/permitted
4.
To safely protect the applicable set from high currents, a 2-stage discharge overcurrent, short-circuit detection and charge overcurrent function is included
5.
A regulator can be installed using an external FET
