§ Overview
In recent years, the market of portable devices such as cellular phones, digital cameras, portable digital audio player, etc. is rapidly expanding. To address devices' higher functions, smaller sizes, and lighter weight, their batteries are changing from size AA alkaline and nickel metal-hydride to lithium ion/lithium polymer batteries.
Although recharging function had conventionally been implemented within devices' main bodies, because the needs for downsizing, cost reduction, and recharging for backup batteries are growing, recharging function is changing to adapt AC charger which can recharge battery packs off the device.
MITSUMI has developed the lithium-ion/lithium-polymer battery recharging control IC for AC charger which can reduce recharging power loss by controlling the primary side through photo coupler and optimizing recharging current and voltage.
